Established in 1978, the museum showcases a remarkable collection of garments and accessories that span several centuries, offering insight into the cultural and social evolution of the region.

Visitors can marvel at the meticulously crafted costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries, adorned with intricate embroidery and rich fabrics that reflect the opulence of the era.

The museum also features a variety of traditional folk costumes, which highlight the diversity and craftsmanship inherent in Sicilian culture. Notably, the Museo del Costume also includes a section dedicated to the history of Sicilian theatrical costumes used in famous productions. This collection underscores the vibrant artistic heritage of Sicily and its significant role in the development of Italian theater.

Among the museum’s prized exhibits are costumes from the renowned Sicilian puppet theatre, known as Opera dei Pupi, which was declared a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001.

With carefully curated exhibits and a rich tapestry of history woven into every fabric, the Museo del Costume offers a fascinating exploration of Sicily’s vibrant past, making it an essential visit for anyone interested in the confluence of fashion, culture, and history.
