Palazzo San Giuliano

Palazzo San Giuliano, an architectural gem located at Piazza Università, 13 in Catania, Italy, is a stunning testament to Sicilian Baroque splendor.

Erected in the early 18th century, primarily between 1738 and 1751, following the devastating earthquake of 1693 that nearly destroyed the city, the building was commissioned by the illustrious Paterno Castello family, Princes of Biscari.

Noted architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini was tasked with its design, contributing to the grandeur and elegance that the city is celebrated for today.

Over the centuries, the palazzo has witnessed a multitude of historical events, including extensive renovations in the late 19th century that integrated Neoclassical elements. It has also served various civic purposes, including housing the University of Catania’s administration. Now, it stands as a cultural beacon, offering a rich tapestry of history and architectural prowess for enthusiasts and visitors alike.
